As temperatures rise and rainfall increases, yards across South Carolina begin growing rapidly. Keeping up with routine lawn care helps maintain the appearance of the property and prevents larger landscaping issues later in the season.
Landscaping responsibilities can vary by property. In some homes, landscaping may be maintained by the owner or an HOA. If this applies to your property, it will be specifically outlined in your lease agreement. Otherwise, tenants should plan to maintain the yard throughout their tenancy.
Below are some general guidelines to help keep your yard healthy and well-maintained during the growing season:
During spring and summer, grass grows quickly in our region. Lawns should typically be mowed about once per week or as needed to maintain a neat appearance and prevent overgrowth.
Most lawns in South Carolina need about 1 inch of water per week, either from rainfall or watering. Watering early in the morning is best to allow grass to absorb moisture before the heat of the day.
If your property has existing landscaping beds, please keep them free of weeds and overgrowth. Regular weeding helps keep the property looking tidy and prevents weeds from spreading.
Shrubs and bushes should be trimmed periodically to prevent them from becoming overgrown or obstructing walkways, windows, or siding.
- Leaves, Debris & Fire Ants
Please keep the yard clear of fallen branches, leaves, and general debris. Fire ants are very common in South Carolina, so we encourage tenants to treat mounds promptly if they appear.
- Planting Flowers or Gardens 🌷
We love seeing residents enjoy their outdoor space! If your property already has existing planting beds, you are welcome to add seasonal flowers if you wish.
